UNITED STATES MAIL SAFETY


We live in a time of changing danger and increased awareness in the well being of our lives.  Opening your mail was once a simple task, and still is.  But as we have recently learned, with it comes a warning.  Becareful of the mail you open.

Since most pieces of mail that you will ever open up will be safe, it is unwise to worry yourself each and every time you open a piece of mail.  After all, we must each live our lives and enjoy our life experiences.

There are some things that might make you suspect a piece of mail.  Here are some simple guidelines recommended by the United States Postal Service.

  • Be alert to any mail or package that is exexpected or from someone you don't know.
  • Be careful of mail or a package that's addressed to someone that is no longer at your address.
  • Be aware if the mail or package is handwritten and has no retrun address or bears one thta you can't cofirm is legitimate.
  • Be careful of any mail or package that is lopsided or lumpy in appearance.
  • Be alert for any mail or package that is sealed with excessive amounts of tape.
  • Be aware if any mail or package that's marked with restrictive endorsements such as "Personal" or "Confidential."
  • Be careful of any mal or package that has excessive postage.

If you should receive a suspicious piece of mail or package, you should so the following:

  • Don't handle a letter or package that you suspect is contaminated
  • Do not shake it, bump it or sniff it.
  • Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Always notify local law enforcement authorities.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.    Always stay alert and look for the Unexxpected!
